5* food 2* service 4* atmosphere An amazing gem in a seemingly benign strip mall. Fantastic creative fresh rustic Italian food. Worth it despite the seemingly high server turnover (Creates the "I don't know what is on our menu" effect, unfortunately). Hopefully in time, their employees stabilize, and bring this place up to a 5* experience; they already have food (the hardest aspect) down cold.

Once you go inside, you'd forget that you're in a Sinking Spring strip mall. Our meals were excellent and tasted very fresh. Not your typical Berks Italian restaurant! A bit pricey, but you get a lot of food. The service was friendly and great.

Just awesome. Went out with the Misses to celebrate our 36th anniversary and we were both excited to try this place. Salute is without a doubt one of the top three restaurants in Berk's county. We had reservations (highly recommended) and were seated quickly at a table for two near the fire and over looking the room or into the kitchen. Kyle greeted us and helped us with excellent and accurate descriptions of the food and drinks being offered. We shared an appetizer, salmon tartar. Served on a block of Himalayan salt with a sea of fresh spring mix. The salmon was lightly cured with a hint of smoke. The buttery texture of the fresh salmon with the delicate cure provide an excellent opening. Next up was a tomato based fish soup that has a hint of heat. I asked for it to be kicked up a notch. It was perfect. The main dish was the grilled seafood plate. Highly recommended. Sword fish, monk fish, shrimp, calamari, salmon with roasted vegetables, and herbed potatoes, a new joy with every bite. Desert was mascarpone cheese cake in a tart shell, shared to limit the guilt, but was to die for and I'm not a desert guy, fabulous. Finished with the best expresso I have ever had. And I am a coffee guy. I roast my own coffee. And I had two cups; smooth, rich flavor, without even a hint of bitterness. This is a hidden gem, a top restaurant in Berks county . Try it you'll like it.

My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner and really enjoyed it. Our server Kasha (sp?) was exceptional...very friendly and informative as well as attentive. As some of the other reviewers indicated, the atmosphere inside is unexpectedly very nice for a restaurant located in small strip mall. It was midweek and we didn't have a problem being seated quickly however I imagine reservations would be best on other evenings. We started our meal with the fresh fried mozzarella and calamari- both were excellent! I ordered a mocha martini which came in a shaker ... It turned out to be three full servings! :) The bartender poured the first glass at our table which was a nice touch. My husband had a very nice Caesar salad & I enjoyed a delicious smoked salmon soup. My entrée was the seafood ravioli with a salmon sauce... I loved it! My husband had the carbonara...also very good. Looking forward to returning again in the near future.

Excellent service & top quality food prepared from scratch. Now open for lunch. My wife & I had the lasagna & carbonara pasta. The lasagna was made from fresh homemade noodles & finished with a bechamel sauce. The carbonara was lighter than most.. Portions were more than ample and we will be back! As good as any Italian restaurant we have visited in NYC.

I tried this place again and again I was disappointed. The food was so bland. Again I had to add so much seasoning to make it taste remotely "Italian". My friends told me to try it here one more time. The service was good, I just wish the food was as well.

My fiancé and I have been going here since they've opened and we couldn't be more grateful for a place like this! First, there's a good amount of parking considering they are in a "strip mall." The owner is genuinely nice and makes you feel welcomed along with the rest of the staff. Tonight we went for a late dinner and it was fairly busy. We waited at the bar while a booth opened up. I would recommend making reservations, especially over the weekend. The bartender was great! She was attentive and informative of the different drinks. Our server was Tom, who was AMAZING! He was so friendly, upbeat, and informative of the menu. We started with the Pasta Fagioli. We generally get the Italian Wedding, but so happy we tried it. It had so much flavor. I didn't have to add any salt or pepper. We originally ordered the Caprese Salad but wound up with the sampler. However, we didn't complain. It was delicious! The meats and cheeses were fresh! The olives, onions, and peppers were excellent as well. For dinner we had ordered the Tempation entree (special) along with the Lobster Linguini. I would HIGHLY recommend the Lobster Linguini. It was excellent. The presentation was on point. There was so much flavor. The portions were good as well! Tom did an excellent job checking back and making sure we were okay. He made our dinner so enjoyable. When we go back we hope to have him again! Overall, this is a must go to place. The food is authentic as the chef is straight from Italy. The staff is friendly. The owner is awesome and couldn't see myself choosing another "Italian" restaurant. This is EXACTLY what Berks County needed!

Strip mall restaurants FTW! You could drive by this place a dozen times and not think anything of it. But you'd be missing out. The food is AMAZING. Salute offers up weekly specials, freshly made pasta and sauces, and many other homemade specialties. Yeah, the owner has a LOT of pride in this place, and it shows. The presentation of each dish is absolutely stunning. Service, though? Lacking, big time! From top to bottom, the service was lackluster. From not knowing the specials or details of other dishes, to not clearing plates or keeping drinks refilled, the shortcomings were both glaring and numerous. The worst I suppose was when I paid and the server lost my credit card (it was recovered after a frantic 10-minute search, thank God). The other time, the server took my plate to wrap up my leftovers and never brought it back. He processed the payment and told us to have a good night. Yeah, but....but... my food! I neeeeed that! It's my life force. I eventually got my doggy bag, but we were separated for an unnerving amount of time. I have severe separation anxiety when it comes to me and food. It's just basic stuff that can be easily corrected at this place. The food is perfectly fine. And that's going to be what brings people back. But if Salute wants to be taken seriously as the "total package" top-tier Italian restaurant in Berks that it's striving to be, then the service aspect must be addressed.

Delicious calamari. Great ambiance and wine selection. Definitely one of the better/nicer restaurants in Berks county

When we first arrived there they asked if we had reservations. We said no and then they offered us a table but only gave us an hour to use it so we sat at the bar. Portions were small (not true italian) and overpriced. I had chicken parm with these spaghetti o's for noodles with a cinnamon taste. Plus people who arrived after us got served before us which is messed up. The only good thing about the experience was the bartender was really nice.

Salute is outstanding. Just opened two weeks ago, they have clearly established themselves as a go to Italian restaurant in the area. The food, service, and attention to detail were second to none. For example, the owner greeted us at the table and asked us how our day was as if we had been long-time friends. I strongly recommend that you come in an try this place out for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

Dessert is my thang and Salute is my new dessert heaven. Came here last night with hubby and two friends, first time for all of us. You would never guess that a beautiful restaurant could be found in a rather sad looking strip mall, but that is the case. Very elegant decor and clean as a whistle. Our waitress was excellent and I couldn't get over how much she needed to memorize regarding off-menu special items. Our evening was fun at a nice leisure pace, and we never felt neglected. I have to disagree with one reviewer who said the portions were too small to be Italian. True Italian is not serving bowl-sized entrees. My fellow diners and I were quite happy with the portion sizes. I enjoyed the tuna tartare with cream fraiche with a hint of lemon (outstanding) for my appetizer, followed by a super delicious creamy Italian Wedding Soup (will definitely order this again), shrimp in phyllo dough pastry that my husband stated were the best and most flavorable shrimp he had ever had, and red fish soup (hubby felt this was okay but not wow). Our friends were very happy with their steamed mussels and fried calamari, followed by salads. For entrees, our friends ordered grilled swordfish and rack of lamb which they said were both well seasoned and delicious, while hubby and I had ravioli Cardinale (the pink lobster sauce with porcini mushrooms was incredible but I was underwhelmed with the crab and shrimp stuffed ravioli), and Fusilli Alla Carbonara (creamy, rich). A basket of small, fresh, warm Italian bread sticks with two bowls of yummy sauce can be replaced again and again throughout your meal. The dessert tray was just ridiculous. Beautiful, different, hard-to-choose ridiculous. Realizing that the world wouldn't end tomorrow and we could come back and try the other desserts, we finally chose chocolate mousse tart, Italian cake with limoncello (the texture was so moist and creamy - very different and spectacular) , cream brulee, and my little darling of almond gelato. We didn't talk too much during this part of our meal. Sigh. I had been so successful with my diet since early February until last night. Are you there treadmill? It's me, Kat. Great experience and we will return.

This was our first time at Salute. The service was very good at the bar, with bartender Steph. My wife had veal Marsala and I ate veal Scallopini. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The restaurant has been open since November and is doing very well. As we ate at the bar the staff sold scads of gift certificates. We will be back!!

We had a ny strip and gnocchi and both were excellent. The atmosphere was great and the best part the service was outstanding with the manager walking around and mailing sure everyone is on their toes and talking to guests. Very nice we will be back. The house red wine is very good as well.

Excellent service and delicious, fresh Sicilian/Italian food with a twist. Warm, cozy winter atmosphere. Highly recommend reservations, the place is on the smaller side and is very busy on weekends. I come from Sicilian born parents and The traditional Sicilian dishes were a bit different than what I grew up with but still very good. Pasta dishes range between $15 to mid 20s and save room for dessert! Also, caution to those with nut allergies someone at our table had a nut allergy specifically tree nuts and the majority of their menu had nuts so it took him quite a bit of time to find something that was ok.

Possibly the best Italian food in Berks County. Do not let the strip mall setting fool you. Once you are inside the restaurant, you will not get that feel at all. The place is intimate. The place on sits about 50-75 people, so I would suggest reservations so you don't have to wait. I had the filet, it was amazing. My wife had 1/2 of lobster, she loved it as well. The desserts about 10 of them come out fresh on a tray for your choosing. I have to say they were just as good. I would highly recommend giving this place a try.

The atmosphere and decor was lovely. It was interesting that they chose to place the bar no more than two feet from the front door. The bartender seemed to take pride in his job inspecting each wine glass for water droplets. Our waitress was attentive and polite. I gave this restaurant only 3 stars because of the food. My salmon was frozen not fresh and the sides were stone cold and not fresh as well. I thought this was going to be our new go to place. It won't because of the food

Staff was warm and polite but service was very slow. Atmosphere was great! Bruschetta was tasty, the Caesar salad and bread were nice but when it came to my meal I was disappointed. I'm a vegetarian and asked if I could get the Ravioli Alla Norcina (Homemade stuffed ricotta and potato ravioli, with sausage and mushrooms in truffle Salute sauce) without the sausage. Quite a while later she said it couldn't be done and offered to get the menu again but I already knew it had little to no veg options listed. She didn't offer suggestions so I told her anything vegetarian would be fine and that I'd just like pasta, veggies, and creamy tomato sauce or the Salute sauce. I ended up with cheese and potato filled ravioli with some spinach in what seemed like a potato soup, which I guess is the Salute sauce? It was bland, totally starchy, and did not have any veggies besides the spinach. When asked, I told the waitress that it was pretty bland and like a potato soup. She offered to send it back to be spiced up or I could order something else, but at this point we had been waiting a long time( about an hour) for the meals so I just took most of it home. The worst part was that it was still $19 even though it was totally cheaper ingredients and nowhere near what I was asking for. Perhaps she misunderstood me or they were unprepared for a vegetarian request (but I feel it's not a big request). My fellow diners had mixed reviews on their meals. May decide to try them again at some point.

Been here twice. First if you are going on the weekend you better make reservations and possibly not wait to the day of. That should tell you something. Basically everything is great. Drink, Food etc. Waitress the first time needed help, Waiter the 2nd time was one of the best i have met. You do get soup or salad with you meal. My recommendation is to go for the soup over the salad. Italian Wedding was excellent. I really do not think you could go wrong with anthing from appetizer, entree or dessert on the menu. Meals run from $16 and up. Well worth it. I

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
